之前的多篇文章都详细探讨了OP-Rollup和ZK-Rollup在去中心化Sequencer问题上的停滞,这是否意味着去中心化Sequencer彻底无解?

带着这个疑问,我进行了对MetisDAO的研究,这个号称构建了第一个去中心化排序器的Layer2项目。我发现Sequencer去中心化技术逻辑并不难,难的是“权利下放”。

Sequencer方案采用了“硬分布式”技术共识和“软分布式”社会共识,看似都合理,但却会带来完全不同的End Game!为什么呢?

在以太坊主网上,用户将交易提交到Mempool,由Searcher搜集交易广播,最终由矿工Builder按Gas高低排序完成打包出块。这意味着,用户提交的交易可能被MEV,且需要遵循Nonce排队机制,支付的Gas是EVM执行操作所需费用,导致在主网上发交易又昂贵、又慢且容易被夹。

类比来看,Layer2的Sequencer就像是一个封闭的Mempool,用户将交易提交给Sequencer,Sequencer负责排序并将交易集中成一个区块最终提交到主网。这使得Layer2的交易排序完全由Sequencer说了算,而且没有Nonce值排队的说法,支付的Gas是同一批Batch交易的均摊费用。

这样一来,Layer2的交易速度快且便宜。理论上,Sequencer收到交易后会按照交易Nonce、接收时间、Gas价格或者随机的算法公平排序。但由于Sequencer权利过大,是否会搞MEV,是否会插入恶意交易等问题尚存疑?

目前Rollup市场主流的方案是默认Sequencer是中心化但却值得“乐观”的解决方案。

一方面,由于Sequencer是Layer2的核心组件,一开始采用分布式Sequencer潜在的故障风险会影响用户体验,因此大多数项目方在早期倾向于中心化运维,以确保安全和稳定;

另一方面,当项目发展到一定程度,处理大量交易需求时,使用了至高无上的权利。不仅可以控制Gas定价权,还能直接抽水盈利。此时市场已经大到一定规模,就不太愿意再推行去中心化把权利拱手相让了。Layer2四大天王Sequencer去中心化进程慢的原因正是如此。

然而,它们都选择了不约而同的Stack战略架构。这是一种将核心技术代码开源,并试图将关键技术组件共享化的战略方案。

通过共享核心Sequencer,打造一个Superchain多链组合架构,然后通过MPC多签、治理权投票等方式来共同治理,形成一种社会化的“透明、分散”共识。就好比山大王封了老二老三老四几个管理坐席,但遇到重大决策时,大家还得唯老大哥马首是瞻不是?

这类软分布式Sequencer方案,适用于市场大到一定规模,大家对权利中心取得绝对信任,且对一些信任摩擦问题(作恶、挑战)等有了脱敏的前提,例如OP Stack。

MetisDAO提供的去中心化Sequencer方案是怎么回事呢?

简单来说,这是一种搭建分布式Sequencer节点的“硬分布式”方案。

Layer2的多个Sequencer节点组成一个排序器池,排序器只有抵押2万个Metis代币才有资格拥有出块权。用户还可以以Staking的形式选择相应的Sequencer节点,这样Sequencer出块挖矿会获得大量代币激励,用户Staking也能共享Reward。

为防止Sequencer存在作恶行为,Metis引入了L2 Rangers,用来对区块进行抽样,并根据其原始的State状态根进行对比验证,包括交易的次序有没有被调换,有没有恶意交易插入等等。该验证行为本身也可以获得挖矿奖励,一旦发现Sequencer作恶,系统会对作恶节点质押的资产进行Slash,验证节点还能分得一部分罚没的资产。

Sequencer想要获得激励就会加入POS权益队列,Verifier挖矿也会加强抽样验证工作,通过这种激励和惩罚模型串起来了一个work的去中心化Sequencer系统。

这种“硬分布式”的架构,Sequencer由多个主体运行,且有透明的奖罚机制存在,是一种约束Sequencer个体权利,确保公平排序的有效方式。

最后,软分布式和硬分布式本质上都是一种战略手段。

Stack开源框架更适用于Monolithic大主体版图扩张,

较为依赖主体的市场地位、品牌威望等无形信任资产;而POS去中心化Sequencer相对更适用于modular小主体弯道超车,毕竟区块链沉淀下来最有力的共识就是节点挖矿技术共识模式。

在Rollup As A Service的Layer2市场局势下,Stack框架会降低项目方开发Layer2的成本,但其累积下的“信任”问题要寄托在所有参与者一起清偿。

而直接硬分布式的技术共识,在Sequencer的问题上边界清晰一些,更适用于整体Layer2技术进展缓慢,舆论风评拉跨的背景下,可以有一个更引人瞩目的起点和发展预期。

当然,我还看了EspressoSys、AstriaOrg、radius_xyz等其他去中心化Sequencer技术共识方案。

和Metis的逻辑也类似,将单一的Sequencer设计成多主体。只不过在涉及这部分链外共识时,Espresso采用了Eigenlayer基于Restaking延伸了以太坊Validators的验证能力;Astria则采用更模块化的方式,为Layer2开发者提供了快速模块化Sequencer方案;Radius则采用了给所有入Sequencer池交易加密的方式,杜绝了作恶和MEV风险。(找机会展开分析)

总之,我的观点是:Sequencer的去中心化问题,并不会止步于Layer2四大天王的Stack战略,技术共识的去中心化方案虽然确实有共识过载的风险,但相比MPC多签治理社会共识那套,更有前景。

It seems reasonable that the decentralization scheme adopts hard distributed technical consensus and soft distributed social consensus, but it will bring completely different reasons. Why is it on the main network of Ethereum? Users submit transactions to the broadcast of collected transactions, and finally the miners sort them out in high and low order, which means that the transactions submitted by users may be paid by and need to follow the queuing mechanism, which leads to the transaction being expensive, slow and easy to be caught on the main network. Analogously, it is like a closed user submitting transactions to be responsible for sorting and concentrating them into a block and finally submitting them to the main network, which makes the transaction sorting completely up and there is no value queuing. In theory, after receiving the transaction, it will be sorted fairly according to the receiving time, price or random algorithm. However, due to excessive power, there are still doubts about whether malicious transactions will be inserted. At present, the mainstream solution in the market is centralized by default, but it is an optimistic solution. On the one hand, most projects will affect the user experience because the core components are distributed at first. In the early days, Fang tended to centralize operation and maintenance to ensure safety and stability. On the other hand, when the project developed to a certain extent and handled a large number of transaction demands, he used the supreme power, which not only controlled the pricing power but also directly pumped water to make profits. At this time, the market was too big to implement decentralization again, and the power was handed over to the four kings. This is precisely the reason why the decentralization process was slow. However, they all chose the same strategic framework, which opened the core technology code and merged it. The strategic plan of trying to share key technology components is to build a multi-chain combined framework by sharing the core, and then to jointly govern by signing governance rights votes, forming a socialized transparent decentralized consensus, just like the king of the mountain sealed several management seats for the second, the third and the fourth, but when it comes to major decisions, everyone has to follow the lead of the big brother. Isn't this kind of soft distributed plan suitable for the market to a certain scale? Everyone has absolute trust in the power center and made some trust frictions. The premise of desensitization such as evil challenges, for example, what is the decentralized scheme provided? Simply put, this is a hard distributed scheme for building distributed nodes. A number of nodes form a sorter pool. Only by mortgaging 10,000 tokens can the sorter qualify for the right to block. Users can also choose the corresponding nodes in the form of "block mining", so that a large number of tokens will be obtained to encourage users to share. In order to prevent evil behavior, sampling of blocks and their original state roots are introduced. Conduct comparative verification, including whether the order of transactions has been reversed, whether malicious transactions have been inserted, etc. The verification behavior itself can also get mining rewards. Once it is found that the evil system will verify the assets pledged by the evil nodes, the nodes can also get a part of the confiscated assets. If they want to get incentives, they will join the equity queue, and mining will also strengthen the sampling verification work. Through this incentive and punishment model, a decentralized system is strung together. This hard distributed architecture is run by multiple entities and has. The existence of a transparent reward and punishment mechanism is an effective way to restrain individual rights and ensure fair ranking. Finally, both soft distribution and hard distribution are strategic means. The open source framework is more suitable for the expansion of large subject's territory, relying more on intangible trust assets such as subject's market position and brand prestige, while decentralization is relatively more suitable for small subject's overtaking in corners. After all, the most powerful consensus after the blockchain has settled is that the consensus model of node mining technology will reduce the development of the project party in the new market situation. Cost, but the trust problem under its accumulation depends on all participants to pay off together, and the direct and hard distributed technical consensus has a clearer boundary, which is more suitable for the background of slow overall technical progress and public opinion. Of course, I have also seen other decentralized technical consensus schemes and their logic are similar, but the test based on the extended Ethereum is adopted when this part of off-chain consensus is involved. The ability of certification adopts a more modular way to provide developers with a quick modular scheme, and it adopts the method of encrypting all transactions entering the pool to eliminate evil and risks and find opportunities to analyze. In short, my view is that decentralization will not stop at the decentralization scheme of the strategic and technical consensus of the four kings.
