His legal team has submitted several statements in support of his request, one of which suggests that he could serve his sentence at the Federal Detention Center (FDC) in SeaTac, Washington.

Robert Palmquist, in a document filed with the Western District of Washington on April 23, stated that if imprisoned, Zhao Changpeng is "highly likely" to serve at FDC SeaTac. Palmquist had served as the warden of a Washington prison from 2003 to 2009, describing the facility as having "inadequate natural light" and being understaffed given the number of inmates.

It has previously housed a member of the Proud Boys charged in connection with the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, as well as a "crypto-anarchist" Jim Bell. Bell was released in 2012, and he was charged with tax evasion related to "assassination politics" in the 1990s: encouraging anonymous payments to individuals to order the assassination of government officials.

Zhao Changpeng's lawyers have submitted multiple letters from friends, family, and business leaders in support of a lenient punishment for the former CEO. According to the U.S. sentencing guidelines, a judge has the authority to sentence CZ to a maximum of 10 years in federal prison, but the specific charges against him suggest a sentence of 12 to 18 months. The prosecutors are asking for a three-year prison sentence and a $50 million fine.

Former Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky faces seven securities and commodities fraud charges and will stand trial in January 2025.

In a letter to Judge Richard Jones dated February 2, he apologized for his "poor decisions" related to the matter. Binance also stated that he is prepared to take responsibility for his actions.
